International Women’s Day 2020
Spend International Women’s Day learning about remarkable women working for change. Pauline “Polly” Higgins (1968-2019) was one of them, and today we want to celebrate her life’s work, as her vision for a sustainable future is more important now than ever. This visionary lawyer-turned-activist quit her high-level job as a London barrister and sold her house to take on only one client for the rest of her life: the Earth
Each for Equal
The theme for International Women’s Day 2020 is Each for Equal. The theme calls upon collaboration, and states, “an equal world is an enabled world.” We at MAINTENANT could not agree more, in fact, we want to expand on that and say: Only an equal world can lead to a clean planet, and only a green planet can lead to an enabled world. We need a healthy planet and a healthy planet needs us to collaborate, and how can we collaborate without equality? Let’s make this symbiosis flourish so widely on International Women’s Day, that it reverberates and multiplies throughout the rest of the year, every year. Because, like International Women’s Day states, the work for equality does not start and end on this day.
Polly Higgins – the Earth’s lawyer
We want to continue in Polly’s spirit and see her vision turn into reality. We want to highlight her tireless work and spread her love for the planet everywhere. And we want everyone, young and old, to know who she was, what she did, and that her end goal - a thriving, harmonious, healthy Earth - is attainable if we work together. That means all genders, all cultures, all ages.
Polly proved that everything starts with a vision, a thought, a dream. Like Polly, anyone can speak up for what is right. She had an idea and a wish and decided to turn it into action. That is what International Women’s Day 2020 encourages people to do – to take collective action. One of MAINTENANT Sustainable Now’s ways to do that – and to empower others to do the same – is through our DIVERSITY DECK® Inspiring People II. This deck teaches children about inspiring women role models, such as Polly Higgins, to empower them in believing they can create anything they want. Read more about who Polly was and what she did in her bio.
